Hello everyone,
Today's LEGO review is for the LEGO Ideas WALL-E set, which was released earlier this year. The set number is 21303, and contains 696 pieces (actually the box says 677 and the LEGO website says 696!). It retails at $59.99 plus tax, and can be found on LEGO's official website, here. Due to the nature of this set, there are no minifigures.
Let's take a look around the box.
The contents of the box:
Like Ecto-1,
which I reviewed the other day, the bags in this set are not numbered. Given that there are just short of 700 pieces, it makes for a somewhat drawn out building process.
I really love the WALL-E movie, and so for me this was an absolute must have set.
His trash compactor panel opens up at the front, and his arms and head move. His eyes can tilt into different positions, and the tracks on his wheels turn, too. The only thing that I don't like so much is that his arms come straight out, without a second joint. It would have been nice to have some flexibility in the hand movement. With that said, his arms can move up, down, back and forward. His head swivels completely around, too (a little too loosely actually, I think).
WALL-E comes with his plant that he discovers in the movie, and it fits in his hands (where there is a clip to keep it in place) or inside his body.
There is a small 1x2 black piece with an antenna on it, that at first I didn't realise what it was. It is in fact WALL-E's little bug friend from the film! A cute idea, if not a little odd looking.
I would give this set four and a half out of five. I think that the hands definitely need a ball joint on them, and his head is a little too free moving. Minor design flaws aside, WALL-E looks awesome and is a must-have for any WALL-E fan.
Dan.
