LEGO Angry Birds Movie Review - Part One

Hello everyone,

On the 20th May this year, the super popular mobile game, Angry Birds, is getting its cinematic debut, with the brand new Angry Birds Movie.

If you're reading this review, the chances are you're interested in the range because you like Angry Birds, so I don't think there is much discussion needed about the hows and whys of the game, and what the upcoming movie will be about, so I'll just jump straight into my review.

There are six sets in the range, with each set varying in size and scope. In this first part of my review, I am going to take a close up look at the three smaller sets, and in part two, the three larger sets.

Let's start with the smallest set in the range, Piggy Car Escape. The set number is 75821, and it contains 74 pieces, including two minifigures. You can purchase this set on Amazon.com, here.

It should be noted at this point that the minifigures are not standard minifigures that you would find in most other LEGO sets, but of course are birds and pigs instead.

Now let's look at the minifigures.

Chuck:

Piggy:

The back of both minifigures:

I would give this set five out of five. I think this is a great starter set for those who want to get into the range. As you can see, it contains one bird and one pig, and some of those precious eggs that define the entire plot of both the game and the movie. This is the only set in the range not to feature Red, and the only one in the range to feature Chuck.
Seeing as this is such a small set, there isn't too much I can say about it, except that I think the car looks good, and I like the minifigures.

Now let's move onto the next set. Piggy Plane Attack, set number 75822, which contains 168 pieces, including two minifigures. You can purchase this set on Amazon.com, here.

Now let's look at the minifigures.

Red:

Pilot Pig:

I would give this set five out of also. The plane itself looks neat, and has space on it for the eggs and the pig. The catapult of course is a staple of Angry Birds lore, so it's great to be able to fling Red at the plane! This is the cheapest set in the range that contains Red. Throughout the range his expressions vary, so it is worth investing in the other sets if you want different versions of him. I like the design of the pig, with his aviator scarf and flying goggles - they are a fun touch.
Over all, a great set to add to your collection - and the cheapest one containing Red and that all-important bird tossing catapult!

The final set I am going to review in this part is Bird Island Egg Heist. This is set number 75823, and contains 277 pieces, including three minifigures. You can purchase this set on Amazon.com, here.

Now let's look at the minifigures.

Red:

Matilda:

Biker Pig:

The back of all three minifigures:

Over all I would give this set five out of five. I really love this range, and I think they did a really good job capturing the spirit of the game and the characters. I like that this set contains the pig's bike, but more than that, I love that it has Matilda's house. This is the only set of the six in the range to contain something that belongs to the birds. Everything else is pig-oriented (the car, the plane, the ship, etc), so it's nice to get something that belongs to our heroes. As you can see in one of the photos, they made the steps to Matilda's house a catapult to be able to fire the birds at the pig!
The biker pig is pretty funny with his glasses, mustache and details on the back, and is different from the other pigs in the range. Red has yet another expression, and Matilda is completely unique to this set.
A really fun set with some good features that makes another great addition to your collection.

That's all for this part. Part two will be up next week, so look out for that.

Have a great day everyone,

Dan.
